This is a live online cohort course. You will attend scheduled live classes with an instructor, complete a final project, and receive a certificate of completion after meeting the course requirements.

Microsoft Power BI is one of the most in-demand business intelligence tools in South Africa and globally. This 3-week live cohort teaches you how to connect to data sources, build data models, create calculated measures and design professional interactive dashboards that help businesses make better decisions faster.

You will work with real datasets across all nine live classes, progressing from Power BI fundamentals through to a complete business intelligence dashboard ready to share with stakeholders.

This course provides education and practical frameworks. It does not guarantee employment, promotion or business results. Results depend on your practice, application and individual circumstances.

This is a live cohort course

  • Format: Live Google Meet classes with an instructor
  • Duration: 3 weeks live classes (28 Sep – 16 Oct 2026) plus 1 week for the Final Project (due 23 October 2026)
  • Live Classes: 9 (3 per week – Mon, Tue, Fri)
  • Sessions: Early Morning 07:00–09:00 or Late Evening 20:30–22:30 SAST
  • Project: Final Power BI Business Intelligence Dashboard due Friday, 23 October 2026
  • Certificate: Non-accredited certificate of completion

What Will You Learn?

  • Understand the Power BI ecosystem and how Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service and Power BI Mobile work together
  • Navigate the Power BI Desktop interface including Report view, Data view and Model view
  • Connect Power BI to data sources including Excel files, CSV files and multiple tables
  • Use Power Query Editor to clean, transform and shape data into an analysis-ready format
  • Build a star schema data model with correct table relationships
  • Write DAX measures including aggregations, conditional logic, CALCULATE and time intelligence functions
  • Create year-to-date, same-period-last-year and period-over-period growth measures
  • Design a professional multi-page interactive Power BI dashboard
  • Add slicers, cross-filtering, drill-through pages, tooltips and bookmarks for full interactivity
  • Apply conditional formatting, KPI visuals and advanced chart types
  • Publish a Power BI report to Power BI Service and configure sharing and export options
  • Present data findings and business insights clearly to a stakeholder audience

Week 1: Power BI Fundamentals, Connecting to Data & Power Query
Get started with Power BI Desktop, connect to data sources, and use Power Query to clean and transform your data into an analysis-ready format.

Week 2: Data Modelling, Relationships & DAX
Build a star schema data model, define table relationships and write DAX measures to create the calculations that power your dashboard.

Week 3: Dashboard Design, Advanced Visuals & Publishing
Design a professional, interactive Power BI dashboard, add advanced visuals and publish your report to Power BI Service for sharing with stakeholders.

Final Project & Certificate
Submit your complete Power BI Business Intelligence Dashboard and qualify for your certificate.
